Morph is an award-winning sculptural furniture piece in strained bamboo and brass, exploring balance, tension, and the transformation of dense materials into soft, fluid form. Winner of the Platinum Award for Furniture Design at the 2026 Tokyo Design Awards.
The Morph Collection
Morph is Studio 52’s signature sculptural table, defined by its fluid form, balanced proportions, and material expression. The bamboo base is carved from solid and refined through a multi step process, carefully shaped, sanded, and sealed to reveal a subtle shimmering end grain. This results in a smooth, tactile surface that contrasts with the precision of the brass top.
A circular brass surface introduces a precise geometric counterpoint to the organic base. Its restrained form establishes a dialogue between warm metal and natural fibre, balancing curvature with clarity. The top appears to hover lightly above the sculpted support, reinforcing a sense of equilibrium and controlled tension. The juxtaposition of material and geometry creates a subtle contrast between fluidity and precision.

Morph is a sculptural table positioned at the intersection between furniture and sculpture. The piece explores how dense structural materials can be shaped to convey softness, tension, and balance while remaining stable and functional. It examines the visual paradox between weight and lightness, questioning how mass can be perceived as fluid through proportion, curvature, and surface articulation.

The base is formed from solid strained bamboo, shaped through an intensive process of carving and refinement. Rather than concealing the material’s inherent grain, the design works with it, allowing the directional fibres to articulate the surface and reinforce the sense of movement within the form. The resulting volume appears to drape under its own weight, as though gravity has acted upon a pliable mass. This visual softness contrasts with the structural performance required of the form, which must accommodate the cantilevered element above. The geometry is carefully calibrated to distribute load while maintaining a minimal footprint, creating a controlled equilibrium between support and suspension.
